Super Mario Galaxy Makes Perfect Christmas Gift
We’ve got the perfect Christmas gift for all you Wii gamers. Super Mario Galaxy turned out to be a far better game than we thought it would be. It sets off a new tradition for Mario and a new layout that introduces so many more features and offers much more fun than we are used to having from a Mario Bro. game.
Super Mario Galaxy starts off the same old way that every Mario game starts off. The evil Bowser has kidnapped Princess Peach, leading Mario into new worlds to search for her. This time, Bowser transports Peach and her whole castle by using flying star ships. Thus begins Mario’s latest attempt to save her, by reaching across the galaxies, finding stars to power the space station hub of the game so he can reach Peach.
Even with the same old plot line – the new atmosphere (pardon the pun) gives us a whole new gaming experience. Because of this we have to learn new tricks and meet new people.
This is the first game that introduces what Nintendo is calling the ’second player co-star’ mode. While one player operates where Mario will go the other player will pick up stars and shoot down the enemies. “Super Mario Galaxy is a game that everybody can play, whether you’ve been a Mario fan for 25 years or you just started playing Wii Sports,” says George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. “It’s an easy favorite for game of the year and should stand as one of the best - and most beautiful - games of all time.”
One of the best things that we love about Galaxy is the new layout. Instead of the flat 2-D land that you play on you get to soar around and visit new heights. Players can completely encircle the spherical worlds. Some areas use different levels of gravity, making jumps higher or lower and speed fast or slow, and some planets have black holes in or near them so that a misplaced jump will send Mario away. It takes some time to get used to – but it will become easier with practice.
Mario also has new transformations, including the Boo Mario, which allows him to float and fly through brick walls, and the Bee Mario, which can turn him into a flying bee. This is definitely a game that both kids and adults will enjoy.
