Sony’s Stream My Game Feature Proves Useless
When we first heard about PS3’s new StreamMyGame feature we were excited. For those of you who have not heard – StreamMyGame allows PS3 gamers to install Linux onto their PS3 –which will then allow them to play their PC games on their console. Sounds exciting doesn’t?
Unfortunately this is too good to be true and you will find that there are more than a few barriers that may stand in our way. The StreamMyGame application only works if the game is actually running on your PC. The service converts a game running on the PC into an audio and video file, and then streams that file to a PS3 running Linux. What this means is that the PS3 is not actually running the game - rather it is just helping the game be display on a TV or monitor other than your PC.
And that’s not all. In order to play the game you still have to use the your PC’s keyboard (wireless) and mouse to play the game because the game is still running on your computer. Here is another catch. StreamMyGames is charging you to do all this. A version of the StreamMyGames application that supports HD quality video will run you $20 a year. A free version that supports 640 x 480 resolution is free.
I don’t know how long it took for Sony to develop this feature – but we are pleading with them to go back to the drawing board and come up with something more inventive and useful to us hard core gamers.

You have to remember that Sony didn’t develop this, someone else did. Nothing to do with Sony, just happens to be developed for PS3 Linux (i.s Ubuntu etc.)

Also you can use a usb keyboard and mouse with your ps3 to play games!!
the good thing is that you can stream any applications to your PS3 or other device. Photoshop on PS3 anyone?
maybe some music streamed from your itunes to your PS3?
also allows games to be played via the internet!!

SECOND did you really think you could run crysis out of nowhere? “Stream” does actually mean it is beeing streamed from somewhere.
They also support the PS3 controller, if you would just read the info on the website.
This is a really cool feature, and i gladly pay 20$ for it, although its free…

1. sony did not make this.
2. this does not allow linux to be installed on the ps3 that was already there infact you need it installed to run this.
3. the game doesnt actually have to be running i dont use it so i dont know the specifics but it will start the game up when you ask to play it from another system.
4. i dont know for sure but id expect they grabbed the opengl or directx events and just had the other system draw them it would be much much faster(they probably do this) they dont just record the screen
5. technically no the ps3 is not running the game thats the good thing about streammygame you can run an awsome game on a crappy system from far away.
6. you dont actually play it on your computer you dumbass what you think computing hasnt gone far enough for them to say hello keypress i will tell your computer friend you have pressed that key???? you hook the keyboard and mouse upto the ps3 (yes people do it if you havent heard of it)
7. they dont force you to pay 20 bucks its free for a smaller screen(still playable but not confortably) or 10 bucks for a normal sized screen. then its 20 bucks for unlimited resolution.
