Sony’s New White PS2 Takes After Wii
Nintendo is still at the top of the console list and is breaking records and making Sony and Xbox look bad. Xbox has been taking action to try and fix this, but up until now Sony hasn’t done anything. Now they have decided that if you can’t beat them, than you might as well join them.
Sony plans to launch a Nintendo Wii-esque looking PlayStation 2 (PS2), shipping the product with a karaoke game, two mics and white controller for only $150 in the US. The limited edition ‘Ceramic White’ PS2, bundled with SingStar Pop, will launch in November as Sony attempts to boost sales of its new usurped PlayStation.
Even though Wii similarities abound, the announcement shouldn’t take anything away from the PS2. To date the system has sold an unprecedented 117 million worldwide, 44 million in North America alone. In fact, PS2 is still the second best-selling console in the world some seven years after its initial release.
Whether this move will work is hard to say at this time. Although I’m thinking that copying another game system might not be the best course of action.
