PS3 Celebrates Victory In Japan

Playstation 3After months of torture and being pushed into last place the Playstation 3 has made it way to the top number one spot In Japan and just in time for its 1st year anniversary! After lowering the price of the PS3 and releasing a lower priced version they have proven that they still have what it takes.

With the holiday season approaching Sony had the brilliant idea to cut the price of the 8- gigabyte PS3 by 17% (done back in October) pushing it down to only $499. They then decided to sell the 40 gigabyte for only $399 ( done in November). Sony saw results immediately and have sold 5.6 million consoles around the world. 2 million of the consoles were bought by gamers in the U.S. and Sony was happy to see that they had out sold the 360 by three to one.

Last year the goal of the gaming community was to create games for the Xbox 360 and than to port them over to the PS3. Sony is happy to see the tides turning in the other direction and is hoping it will stay that way for some time.

“Developers are now creating games on PS3 and then porting them to other platforms. This shows the strides developers are making in creating content for PS3 and also provides developers with an advantage as it’s harder to port from Xbox 360 to PS3. Ubisoft’s Haze is the first title to be created on PS3 and ported to Xbox.”
