Playstation Still Dragging In Console War

Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, PS3Sony is doing everything in its power to make the PS3 and PSP more attractive to gamers. They are promoting the new features that are being added and making them look much more attractive and of course slimmer.

And it seemed to be working. Sony’s spirits were lifted when they noticed an increase in sales. But was it enough?

US sales for the Playstation 3 rose dramatically last month following a 100-dollar price cut, according to sales figures released Friday by research firm NPD. But the Sony-made gaming console still lags behind both the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft’s Xbox 360.

Dave Karraker, the Sony spokesman who predicted the PS3 would overtake the 360, stated that he was only wrong by a bit, and that NPD(where he obtained his figures)doesn’t provide an exact count but estimates some portions of the market. Needless to say he has refrained from making another prediction for next month.

While Microsoft and Sony battled it out for second place in the next-generation console competition, Nintendo continues to ride its less powerful processor, simpler graphics and gyration-inspiring game controller to fad-defying results. Nintendo’s July sales bested its June figures by around 50,000 units, further stumping analysts and video game software companies who keep waiting for the Wii to peter out.

Sony and Microsoft would do well not to think about the Wii losing right now, but about upping their game and being more creative. After all that is why the Wii is such a big hit.
