It seems that the Playstation 3 is falling behind in the war against Xbox and Nintendo. Many users have made comments against the game console saying that the AI(artificial intelligence)isn’t good enough for most games. Games like the brand new Madden ‘08, which is said to be much better than on teh Xbox 360.

But the people at Sony are confident that the PS3 is sufficient enough for users and they claim that the AI is better than normal. To prove its worth they decided to put through the ultimate test.

Sony Computer Entertainment America’s communication’s chief Dave Karraker was proud to note on the PlayStation 3 “stress test” that put the console through triple-digit hours of operation in various adverse conditions that no gamer would endure. The test, as conducted by PS3 Vault, is titled, “How to kill a Ps3 Console” and sends the machine into zero degree temperatures and sauna-level heat for over four days at a time.

They first put the machine in a typical family room environment, which resulted in 108 flaw-free hours. Then, they put it in the back of a freezer van, started the temperature at 50 degrees, and then dropped it slowly down to 0 degrees over the 108-hour span. There was some “sluggish playback” at 0 degrees, but the console still persevered.

The final testing area was inside a sauna, where temperatures started at 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and went up to 120 degrees over the last 24 hours. “Strangely enough we thought this would prove to be the ultimate area to kill the console, and to our surprise the only incident we noticed was a slight burning smell that came in around 64hours at 110F,” read the test report. “The console was extremely hot when we finished the overall test but had come thru all environments with flying colours.”

So the only way to acctually kill the PS3 is to take a sledge hammer to it and smash it into little bits(which could prove to be fun). But what is durability to gamers if performance is down. Who knows maybe there are some people who will be proud of their unbreakable PS3.

They concluded the only way to kill a PS3 was, quite frankly, to smash it with a sledgehammer. Karraker has called the console an “Energizer bunny,” and you know what? Damn, we’d have to agree.
