Nintendo Launches WiiWare
Nintendo has launched the new WiiWare – an online facility that holds dozens of downloadable games. Basically Wii users will be able to find games that new or independent. Nintendo is hoping to compete with Microsoft’s famous Xbox Live Arcade and the XNA Studio as well as Sony’s Playstation Store.
WiiWare is launching with six games: Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, Frontier Development’s LostWinds, XGen Studios’ Defend your Castle, Nnooo’s Pop, High Voltage Software’s V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack, and Gameloft’s TV Show King. Nintendo will be adding new games to WiiWare each Monday.
This also gives independent developers a chance to show their work to gamers and get their names out. For now Microsoft has held these new developers through their XNA platform – but now they are hoping to compete and bring some over to their side.
