Mario Strikers Charged For The Wii

Mario Strikers ChargedLaunched yesterday, the sequel to the popular Super Mario Strikers for the Nintendo GameCubeĀ sees Mario and his Mushroom Kingdom mates battle for possession of the elusive soccer ball with numerous Mario-worthy twists like power-ups and obstacles.

This isn’t your typical soccer game, either. Mario will run into earthquakes, firestorms, and electric shockwaves on the field. The developers carefully integrated Wii’s motion controller without disrupting the game’s flow, introduced online play, and allowed Mario’s sidekicks to serve a meaningful purpose.

Nine new stadiums are introduced along with a plethora of new characters, each of whom have their own special abilities and power moves. Players can create their own teams by mixing and matching captains and sidekicks, and then master Striker Challenges (or the tournament-style Road to Striker Cup) to unlock new elements and cheats.

Players can also challenge other gamers online, with participants ranged using a positive-structured points system which resets to zero every week. “There’s no better way to keep a game challenging and fun than to invite more people to join the action. With Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, we’re creating a real community where players at any experience level can take part in the fun” says George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications.

The game supports up to four players and is rated “E” for Everyone. You can find Mario Strikers Charged for the Wii at pretty much any place that sells Nintendo games. Expect to pay around $49.
