Japan Recycles PS2
The holidays are the best time to get great deals on games and gaming consoles. Sure you may not always get the brand new one that has been released – but there is always something out there for you to get that could be almost as good. Japan at least is showing us how to do this by re-designing the PS2 for those who want one – but don’t want to pay the $500 it takes to get the PS3.
Scheduled to launch in Japan on November 22, the new SCPH-90000 series is the previously rumored “compact” PS2, as the new hardware does indeed feature a power-brick within the console’s shell rather than in the middle of the power cord. It will feature the same form factor as the current model, but the AC adapter will be built into the console — and the whole shebang will be even lighter than the current one, weighing in at a slight 720 grams.
There were rumors flying around saying that they were coming to the U.S. early 2008 and that they would be priced around $99. Unfortunately we can’t prove these rumors at this time – but we can hope.
