The Gran Turismo 5 prologue is becoming more popular than anyone would have thought. It has shot up into the UK game charts and its launch has actually increased the sales for PS3 hardware. The first week that it was released it helped the PS3 to outsell both the DS and the Wii by a large number. This is something that they have not accomplished in a long time.

One week later - ending 5th April - it’s not on the top but it’s still leading its more direct rival, the Xbox 360, by over 10,000 units. Now, this data comes from VGChartz so I shouldn’t need to tell you to be wary about taking it all at face value. Also note that the same website handily lumps Europe in with Australia and ‘Other’ when getting these figures. However, the fact that PS3 is overtaking the Xbox 360 in the UK in the wake of the major Xbox 360 price cuts is more than a little encouraging to say the least.

Microsoft is now feeling the need to make sure that they perform their best when GTA IV is launched on the 29th of this month. We may just see a change in the console war that we have not seen in a long time.
