EA Finding Ways To Improve Video Game Graphics

Pirates Video Game StillVideo games are something that young people love to play. Whether it be Halo, Lord of the Rings, or even a classic game like Tetris. But we all know that the graphics on these games is good, but far from great. Glenn Entis, the cheif technical officer at Electronic Arts(EA Games), beleives that the graphics need to be turned up a few degrees. Far be it from us to deny someone the chance to make our fun better!

Mr Entis told the Siggraph conference that games makers had to use much more than graphics to make their creations believable, engaging and fun. “Game worlds must not just look lifelike, he said, they must also react in a realistic manner too. Tools that let players create content were also becoming important,” he said.

“So how can we keep the thrills coming?” Entis pondered. The challenge, he said, is to find the new hot spots which excite both the creators and purveyors of graphical content. In this vein, Entis turned to the realm of real-time graphics, usually the awkward younger sibling of pre-rendered CG, which he sees as being the new frontier for the computer graphics community.

When the creators of entertainment get caught on the commoditization trend, the players will feel it and be drawn to it. Keeping the thrill in game development, and in graphics in general, means looking for the big new problems, finding innovative new ways to solve them, and then keeping ourselves excited by the new frontiers these solutions reveal.

We are confident that EA will be able to crack the code and create more realistic worlds for us to play in. It is always known that the more time that passes the more advances in technology will come from it. For example twenty years or so ago we never even had internet.
